That single design decision shapes the price, the privacy question and the honest answer to whether this robot is ready. The weight-to-payload ratio is the genuinely impressive number here. A 66 lb machine rated to lift over 150 lb is carrying more than twice its own mass, which is unusual and speaks to the actuator design. The 22 dB claim matters more than it sounds for a machine meant to share a living room, since a robot you can hear working through a wall does not stay in a household long.
Runtime is the omission that should bother a buyer. A humanoid that runs for forty minutes and then charges for three hours is a very different product from one that works a full evening, and most current platforms sit at one to four hours per charge, a range I track across the models in my market comparison. Without a published figure, there is no way to place NEO on that scale. It also means that a person employed by the manufacturer can, by arrangement, operate a machine inside your house. 1X does not list cameras among the published specifications, though the promised ability to blur faces implies them. That is not a scandal, it is the product design. It is simply the fact most coverage mentions once and then leaves behind.
1X has addressed the privacy question directly. At the pre-order launch the company said privacy features are built into the robot, including no-go zones in the home that NEO will never enter, and the ability to blur the faces of people it interacts with.
Here is what I could not find, and I looked. 1X’s own product page does not mention teleoperation, remote operators, privacy or data handling anywhere. It does not state what share of NEO’s work is autonomous. Aggregator coverage circulates a figure of roughly 60 to 70 percent autonomy for 2026, and I have found no primary source for it, so I am not repeating it as fact. What can be said accurately is narrower and more useful: the manufacturer sells the robot without publishing an autonomy figure, and the teleoperation model is documented in press coverage rather than on the product page.
For a buyer, the practical questions are therefore not answered by the marketing. Can you audit when a teleoperator connected? Can you decline remote assistance entirely and keep only what the robot does by itself? Does the subscription price assume a certain amount of teleoperation, and does that change later? None of those is answered on the product page or in the launch coverage I checked, and all of them are reasonable to put to 1X before a deposit.

What Can NEO Actually Do Today?
1X describes day-one functions as opening doors for guests, fetching items and turning off lights at night, with capability growing through software updates. Those are modest, specific and, importantly, verifiable claims rather than a demo reel.
They are also worth reading carefully. Opening a door, carrying an object and operating a light switch are three tasks a humanoid body is genuinely well suited to, because the house was built for that body plan. They are not the same as loading a dishwasher or folding laundry, which involve deformable objects and far more failure modes. Where a vendor lists the easy tasks explicitly and leaves the hard ones to “future updates”, the list is the roadmap.
The company has also invested in the underlying autonomy problem rather than only in teleoperation. In June 2026, 1X launched a dedicated lab to build large-scale AI world models for autonomous humanoids, after internal work let NEO perform unseen tasks without task-specific training. If that direction holds, the teleoperation share should fall over the life of the product. That is the bet a buyer is making, and it is a reasonable bet, but it is still a bet on future software rather than a purchase of present capability.
How Does NEO Compare on Price?
Two anchors are useful, both verified on the manufacturer’s own order page in August 2026.
Weave Isaac, a home robot aimed at the same room of the house, lists at $7,999 upfront or $449 a month with a $250 refundable deposit. That is roughly 40% of NEO’s purchase price, but it is not the same class of machine: Isaac rolls on wheels instead of walking on two legs, and legs are a large part of what NEO’s price buys. Weave has also described its robot as running mostly autonomously with occasional teleoperation, a different posture from NEO’s scheduled-operator model rather than a matching one. Whether the premium is justified comes down to build quality, the autonomy trajectory and support, none of which can be judged from a spec sheet before units are in homes. Two pieces of wider context are worth holding alongside the price.
